The Decade that was the 60s
There is nothing like a nice weekend, listening to oldies music while drinking your favorite beverage in the terrace on a warm summer. It is seemingly the usual case, especially during Sundays. Another common genre would be country music, well at least inside our house. We would normally have our classic CDs and have them playing on the radio or look for a radio station that would play such kind of music.
Whether you admit it or not, it is definitely soothing to listen to those classic tunes on a lazy afternoon. Songs from the likes of Elvis Presley, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, and Buddy Holly would simply get your nerves relaxed and your mood swiftly go calm as you listen to the melody.
I personally find the 60s to be great. With the likes of Beatles and other great bands, it is surely a great decade for music. It was the era where Rock was born. 1960′s History gave way to the all time greats. Pop music steadily grew to be controlled by new young “vocal” groups, where the combination of the artist’s charisma and the songwriting capabilities of the production team behind the scenes were involved. This change eventually made rock artists to write and produce their own songs that gradually gave way to the likes of Marvin Gaye, Brian Wilson, and Lennon & McCartney.
At the onset of the decade, the music scene was heavily dominated by American artists, until 1963, the same year when JFK was assassinated, Beatlemania came. It was the British Invasion and they were not denied of greatness, only leave Beach Boys and Four Seasons to survive the wave of the Red Coats. The American bands started to sound like the Brits with the likes of Knickerbockers, Beau Brummels, Buckinghams, Sir Douglas Quintet, and Turtles.
On that very same decade came great photographers. The one who has played a big part to help shape up the 60s was David Bailey. He helped alter the art of photography by foreseeing other movements and styles before everybody else had envisioned them. It was the era where photographer would become as popular as the people they shoot because of the innovative ways that photographers would use. The era paved the way to what we see today and most of the techniques that were done during that time are still being used and improve in today’s time. 60s was truly a decade to behold.
